Hi everybody, i have to admit that this year I did almost nothing on my blog. I had few personal reasons not to, but today here I am. I do not promise anything, but i'll really try to update our blog a bit more.
It's been 10 months i'm in Sicily. I came here without really speaking the language. Thankfully Gloria is native from here and she helped me a lot for many things.
I also had the great idea to start again my studies here (very easy when you don't really speak the language). Fortunately Italian is a close enough language from French, so i eventually learned quick enough.
Next week will set the start for my second semester exams, that i hope to pass successfully.
What about sport this year ?
I started Jiu Jitsu at my university as well. The academy is affiliated to Tribe Jiu Jitsu which is the biggest association in Italy, under the pioneer Frederico Tisi.
Even if the belts in Messina aren't very high (the professor Salvatore Romeo is purple belt and there are few blue belts) the technical level impressed me very much. In 10 months, thanks to all of them, I really feel have improved my game very much.
In fact i did 3 competitions this year (i would've done more but BJJ is expensive) which went good enough.
Actually I went to 5 but the first i missed weight and the second I didn't have opponents...
Freestyle Wrestling :
I have to admit I never liked NOGI, so I didn't want to do Wrestling. But my mates insisted and I eventually started. The professor is Giovanni Schillaci, Vice world champion, 3 times Olympic and former Italian team trainer. Kind of a big name, isn't it?
It would've been a shame not to learn from him. He is an excellent professor, which made me bound to wrestling. Also Wrestling is kind of Judo without the kimono (Or at least it seems to me), so i kept training, twice a week, then three times.
Recently i did my first competition, the Italian College Championship, i had to go to the -120kg category (weighting 98) and i did eventually good, Gold medal.
So now i'm addicted to 3 different grappling sports...
Big Changes in our lives in few months. We did leave Dublin to pass summer in Alsace and end up for the next school year in Sicily !
