Unfortunately injuries are guaranteed practicing some sports. We just can hope it’s not a big one.
I’m like a lot of men, I don’t really care about injuries, I let them go and continue training. Of course without consulting a doc when I should. But my last big injury (crushed ligaments that needed surgery) made me think about injuries.
I’m not a high level athlete; I’m just deeply passionate about what I do. However , I train more to go higher, increase my skills and be better. I’m like 90% of the Jujiteros and Judokas.
Now, after a knee surgery I did a sum of my injuries. A shoulder in a bad way, I trained when I had a foot broken (so now it’s a bit crook)…
I would love to go back and swap few weeks of training with taking care of them properly.

If you’re injured on the top, train your legs; conversely train your top if the legs are injured. You can also do another sport that's good to train you muscles on another way, such as swimming, biking, running…
How to relax? You have few ways to relax. A really effective one I really like is Yoga, but you also have meditation, saunas, spas…
You don’t need supplements, chemical protein powders or so on. Just eat healthy, varied and possibly fresh.
How much can we love our sports and martial arts! And if people ask us "Is it safe? Aren't you hurting people all the time or getting hurt?" we promptly reply "Nooo! We tap or they tap before getting hurt, it's all safe!" or "We know how to fall, when to stop etc"
Well, I'm one of these athletes and I really believe the things I say, but I guess my brain in love with martial arts can play the blindness love game to me!
I'm talking about the high high risk of injury we undergo during every training!
In my very yet short Bjj journey I can count a jammed toe, start of a cauliflower ear, shoulder sprain and the very last new entry an ankle sprain. (I'm not including in the list obviously what we are doing on the cartilage and joints of our knees, let's wait few years!)
The most common medium-injury in bjj are indeed ligament sprains.
A sprain is an injury to a ligament around a joint, which has been caused by its movement in a direction it was not meant to move in. It occurs when the fibres of the connective tissue are torn and damaged with a bone being broken or dislocated. Sometimes bleeding occurs. The damaged tissue causes swelling and is extremely painful. If one suspects that a bone is broken immediately see a qualified medical practitioner, also if the pain and swelling from a suspected sprain does not disperse after a day or two (the doctor will order X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scans or computed tomography (CT) scans)
The first things to do to help your body to heal itself:
If your physical examination suggests that you have a severe sprain or fractured bone in the shoulder area, your doctor will order .

In bjj and judo the main sprains include:
If you have a Grade I sprain, your discomfort should ease within one to two weeks, and you will be able to resume normal activities as soon as you can move your shoulder through its normal range of motion without pain.
If you have a Grade II sprain, your discomfort should lessen within two weeks, but it may take as long as six to eight weeks before you can return to your usual athletic activities.
People with Grade III sprains often return to work within four weeks. Athletes who participate in contact sports, however, have a high risk of injuring the area again, so they often need three to five months of rehabilitation before returning to their sport. You can also need surgery (exemple: crushed ligaments).
Essential oils can be very effective for sprains when used in compresses and in gels, cause they speed the recovery time up
WHICH ESSENTIAL OILS:
Oils with analgesic properties, as well as something that will help with the swelling and bruising, therefore something helping the blood flood circulating better.
Create your blend mixing 2 or 3 different oils. E.g. : 1 drop of Peppermint, 2 drops of Helichrysum, 2 drops of Rosemary
